America's #1 Uranium Producer
Cameco Resources is America's largest uranium producer. Their mines in Wyoming and Nebraska provide more than half of America's domestically produced uranium used to generate clean-air electricity at nuclear power plants.
They use the environmentally friendly in situ process of mining. Uranium is produced through wellfields, rather than with open pits or underground shafts. There are no tailings or waste rock.
They operate only in areas where the natural groundwater is unsuitable for drinking purposes. Water is continually recycled and carefully monitored by the company. When done mining, they restore the water and reclaim the land to pre-mining conditions.
Cameco Resources is a subsidiary of one of the world's largest uranium producers, Cameco Corporation of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada. They are America's largest uranium miner, providing more than half of domestically produced uranium for nuclear power plants.
Their US headquarters is in Casper, Wyoming. They own and operate the Smith Ranch-Highland uranium mine near Glenrock, Wyoming, and the Crow Butte uranium mine near Crawford, Nebraska.
Cameco is committed to increasing production. They have expansion sites in development in Wyoming and Nebraska. These sites will provide material to the central processing plants at Smith Ranch-Highland and Crow Butte for the increased production of yellowcake, which is shipped to other facilities in the US and Canada for processing into fuel rods for nuclear power plants.
Wyoming is America’s number one producer of uranium and has more uranium resources than any other state.
Cameco Resource’s Smith Ranch-Highland mine in eastern Wyoming is the largest uranium mine in the United States.
To meet America and the world's demand for uranium, Cameco is working to increase its US production. Key to accomplishing this goal will be the addition of three planned expansion sites in Wyoming.
These additional sites will all be in situ operations and will provide material to the central processing plant at Smith Ranch-Highland. Each site is already licensed by the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission, and additional regulatory approvals are in process
Cameco Teams for Dreams
Cameco Teams for Dreams is a partnership between the American Cancer Society, Wyoming Community Foundation, Cameco Resources and University of Wyoming Intercollegiate Athletics. It is designed to help make a difference in the fight against cancer and in the lives of individuals and families dealing with a Stage 4 diagnosis. There two components of the program:
1. Prevention and early detection: Fundraising events will support the American Cancer Society’s goal of doubling the rate of colo-rectal screening in Wyoming. 2. Fulfilling dreams: Sales of special items at UW football and basketball games, and other events, will help provide dreams for Stage 4 patients with any form of cancer. How the partnership works: The regional American Cancer Society helps solicit and select dreams recipients, and receives the proceeds of events to use in its fight against colo-rectal cancer in Wyoming. The University of Wyoming Athletics Department promotes the program and supports it with special speakers and activities. Cameco Resources underwrites the cost of fundraising events and helps direct and promote the program. The Woming Community Foiundation helps manage the funds and facilitate the dreams. The people of Wyoming get better screening and treatment of cancer, and selected cancer patients have their dreams fulfilled.
