Atlas Carbon received a $15 million large project loan from the Wyoming Business Council on Tuesday, the first loan of its type since the program was created by the Legislature in 2014. Energy Capital Economic Development began working with Atlas Carbon to help secure this loan in 2015, and the loan was awarded in October 2016.
“People often think that economic development is a bunch of overnight successes. This loan is a perfect example of how economic development works. We have been working with Atlas Carbon and the Legislature for the last two years on this loan,” Phil Christopherson, CEO, Energy Capital Economic Development, said.
With this loan, Atlas Carbon will double its production of activated carbon, boosting production to approximately 108 million tons per year. Along with the increased production, it will double its workforce.
“We’re well on our way to diversifying our economy. Atlas Carbon has helped put not only Campbell County, but Wyoming on the map as a great location for companies who use coal in alternative ways. This is a great win for economic development, Campbell County, and Wyoming,” said Christopherson.
