Campbell County, Wyoming Population and Housing Narrative Profile:

Located between the Big Horn Mountains and the Black Hills, Campbell County averages 275 days of sunshine. The average relative humidity is quite low providing delightful summer weather and dry winters.  Campbell County is a very young, family oriented and hard working community.

HOUSEHOLDS AND FAMILIES:

In 2017 there were 17,558 households in Campbell County. The average household size was 2.70 people.

Families made up 70% of the households in Campbell County. This figure includes both married-couple families (56.1%) and single parent families (13.8%). Nonfamily households made up 30% of all households in Campbell County. Most of the nonfamily households were people living alone, but some were composed of people living in households in which no one was related to the householder.

GEOGRAPHIC MOBILITY:

In 2017, 80% of the people at least one year old living in Campbell County were living in the same residence one year earlier; 10% had moved during the past year from another residence in the same county, 1% from another county in the same state, 5% from another state, and less than 0.5% from abroad.

EDUCATION:

In 2017, 91.3% of people 25 years and over had at least graduated from high school and 18% had a bachelor's degree or higher.

The total school enrollment for Campbell County School District was 8,100 in 2017.  College or graduate school enrollment was 2,165.

In 2017, 78% of Campbell County workers drove to work alone: 14% carpooled, 3% took public transportation, and 3% used other means. The remaining 2 % worked at home. Among those who commuted to work, the mean time to travel was 20.9 minutes to get to work.

INCOME:

The median income of households in Campbell County in 2017 was $80,178 as per the 2010 census. 93% of the households received earnings and 8 % received retirement income other than Social Security. 16 % of the households received Social Security. The average income from Social Security was $14,346. These income sources are not mutually exclusive; that is, some households received income from more than one source.

POVERTY AND PARTICIPATION IN GOVERNMENT PROGRAMS:

9.4% of people were in poverty; 8% of related children under 18 were below the poverty level, compared with 1% of people 65 years old; over 4% of all families and 24% of families with a female householder and no husband present had incomes below the poverty level.

HOUSING CHARACTERISTICS:

Campbell County had a total of 15,015 housing units, 8.1% of which were vacant. Of the total housing units, 57 % was in single-unit structures, 18 % was in multi-unit structures, and 24 % was mobile homes. 32 % of the housing units were built since 1990.

OCCUPIED HOUSING UNIT CHARACTERISTICS:

Campbell County had 13,797 occupied housing units - 11,000 (77%) owner occupied and 3,200 (23 %) renter occupied. 4% of the households did not have telephone service and 2 % of the households did not have access to a car, truck, or van for private use. Multi Vehicle households were not rare. 34 % had two vehicles and another 42 % had three or more.

HOUSING COSTS:

The median monthly housing costs for mortgaged owners was $1,327, non-mortgaged owners $356, and renters $762. 17% of owners with mortgages, 3 % of owners without mortgages, and 21% of renters in Campbell County spent 30 % or more of household income on housing.
